The film
Roger is a young financial shark working in a Swiss bank. Confident and doing well for himself, this thirty-something with a golden touch sets himself up in a side-business smuggling money. When a delivery of a million counterfeit Euros is discovered at Customs, he has to flee the police. His only means of escape is to dive into Lake Constance. He finds himself in a fairytale world full of timid mermaids who look like Lara Croft, and witches disguised as magpies. Just as in a Grimm’s tale, Roger has to pass three tests to free himself of the curse one of the witches has pronounced on him … In this film Thomas Imbach contrasts two antagonistic worlds: the world of fairy-tale with that of the Swiss banking milieu. I Was a Swiss Banker is like a rite of passage in which Roger comes to question his previous life and discovers unsuspected values within himself.
